Search For The Best Apple iPad Case…

I mentioned before that I originally ordered the Apple iPad Case from Apple.com, which I was highly disappointed with. The video above says it all. The case that Apple sells for their iPad is flimsy, and not at all secure as a stand as advertised...

I traded in my black Apple iPad Case when I went to the Nashville Apple Store last week. I asked the sales rep there at the store for a recommendation on a new iPad Case that would give me more protection, and also for a stand so that I can use my Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard with my iPad. These were important to me after my experience with the iPad shattering after sliding right out of my hand.

The guy at the Apple Store pointed me over to the iPad cases and covers on display, and suggested the Incase iPad Case would be the best thing they had in stock. I was not at all impressed when I got it home and unboxed it:

Needless to say, I'm planning to return the Incase product and get a refund, and am still shopping for the best Apple iPad Case, Stand and Cover. Both the Incase and the Apple iPad Case put your iPad at risk for falling over and shattering - very easily. I asked my friends on Twitter and got quite a few suggestions and recommendations, so I spent the weekend checking those out.

The Apple iPad Case video review above was done by Mike of Insanely-Great.com. He has actually reviewed a lot of iPad cases and accessories on his YouTube channel, so I checked out quite a few.

BookArc iPad StandI decided to order the BookArc iPad Stand he reviewed, as that looks like an ideal set-up for working on the iPad when I am home and at my desk. It will work perfectly with my Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard, which is one of the accessories I added to my original iPad order.

eco-vue ipad caseI also looked up the Eco-Vue iPad Case, which was recommended by Ed Dale. It doubles as a protective case and stand, and also has a hand strap.

There are two versions of the Eco-Vue iPad Case - one of them is a few dollars cheaper but has less features. Namely the hand strap, which is definitely worth a few bucks more. The nicer version is not yet available, so I pre-ordered it through Amazon.

I decided to purchase both items from Amazon.com, so I should at least get the BookArc iPad Stand before I travel at the end of the week. I am not sure when the Eco-Vue iPad Case is shipping, so I ordered a separate iPad case from another site.

Actually I have 3 iPad Cases and 2 iPad Stands coming. A variety of prices & quality, and features. I'll share the details of each of these products with you when they arrive. Until then, I'm still on my search for the best Apple iPad Case so feel free to suggest products in the comment section below! πŸ˜‰

    Lynn,

I'm disappointed to hear about the horrible service you have received from Apple throughout this ordeal! How frustrating! And so much more expensive than it probably needed to be...ugh!

I hope your new case is what you're looking for!

  2. Thanks for the suggestions as I've been looking for an iPad case for when I travel. I think I'll order the Eco-Vue iPad Case!

    • I pre-ordered it. It looks like the ideal iPad Case, so I am hoping it suits my needs. I have several others coming as well to try out, but the Eco-Vue looks to be very high quality and super functional!

  3. The one thing I have heard many times regarding the Apple iPad case is that its one great cat hair magnet, among other things.

I agree with your review of Incase, as one would definitely NOT expect flimsy protection for a pricey and delicate device such as the iPad.

Good luck in your search, and look forward to your upcoming reviews.

p.s. One more thing, many actually end up buying/using a set of different iPad cases and stands, as each one serves a different purpose. The iPad being such a new device, it seems the wholly grail of one case or stand serving all purposes, is not quite out yet.

But i'm confident you will find an iPad case and stand, you will be delighted with and serves your needs. (For now!)

    • I agree with you, and with Mike's review in the top video, of the Apple iPad Case - it collects dirt and dust and looks "old" after only a couple days' use. It's very flimsy and not at all padded. It's far too unstable to be used as a stand as advertised by Apple.

I agree that I may need more than one case/cover/stand depending on whether I'm home, at my desk, mobile or traveling. I look forward to my next few packages and hope to find some good products this time around!

      Love your blog πŸ˜‰

From your post i now know that there a lot accessories for iPad like the one you are search...iPad cover case. Sometimes we have read the review or watch the youtube before buying a product.

Thank you Lynn for sharing your experience and reviewing it for people like me to know and learn from it.

    • I had no idea there were so many cases & accessories out there, until I discovered (the expensive way!) that I needed them. It always pays to research online before buying... you can bet someone else has been through the process already and done the homework for you!

  5. I cannot believe that thing was $40! What are they thinking? They are trying to cheap out on their accessories. Totally bummed about your entire experience with the company.

    • The Apple iPad Case was the same price as the Incase product. While Apple doesn't make that Incase item, I can't believe they even carry it in their stores!

  6. Hey isn't this the same material batman uses for his wings? Haha the video is great.

Ehm I am kinda weirded out that they are selling these accessories for a high value product like the iPad.

  7. The thing I don't understand about the case you have chosen is that it is set up to be just like a computer. If you are going to do that, then why not just use a regular laptop?

    • Good point, Thomas. But we all saw what happens when I use it *without* a case - which was my fuss too. It's a design issue, in my opinion, that it's too slick & fragile to be used without a case...

I have 3 more iPad cases/covers to try out, and am hoping I find one (or even more than one) that suit my needs.

Since I purchased the wireless keyboard, but not the keyboard dock, I decided to get the BookArc iPad Stand for when I'm working at my desk (or when it's at my desk charging).

When I'm mobile, I need a protective case. Ideally one that also doubles as a stand, or at least props it slightly for easier viewing & typing.

Even when cased, or docked at the desk, it's a lot more mobile than my Macbook Pro, and a lot easier to use than my smart phone...

  8. Well, many say the Apple case collects dust and other small stuff. Though it's small, I agree that it's very disappointing as well.

Good luck in your quest for the best iPad case. Guess I have to subscribe to read your upcoming posts.

    Keep it up Lynn!

    Lynn,

I took a really bad fall yesterday at Sturbridge Village in Massachsetts yesterday, and my iPad went flying out of my hand landing about 15' away. I use the iLuv iPad case from http://www.iLuv.com. Neither my case nor my iPad suffered any damage.

I am typing on my iPad to write this comment, and I am commending the designers of my iLuv iPad case for their great job. Needless to say, I recommend it highly.

I am blessed when I am at home to have an independent Apple dealer, Di-No Computers, to help me with all my Apple product needs.

As you know I was am Apple employee or contractor for over 15 years, but I am sad to report that my experiences at Apple Stores has not been great either. I recommend finding an independent Apple dealer and establishing a relationship with them. They have every reason to make sure they keep their customers happy, as they have all made deep personal investments in their dealerships. I think you will also find they are among the most knowledgeable people you will find.

Of course, as an Elite member of SSWT, I am always available to you if I can ever be of any help. It would be a privilege to help someone who has been such a tremendous help to me.

    Sincerely,

    Jerry Nielsen - iMarketOnMac

    • I'm really sorry to hear about your fall, Jerry - did you come out of it okay?? I clicked on your link but it took me to a dating site (thanks! lol). Do you have a direct link to the iLuv iPad Case you're using? I'd love to check it out.

  10. Jerry Nielsen says

    Lynn,

Aaarrgh. I left out the dash. The URL is http://www.i-luv.com/

So sorry for the other link. I was NOT hinting. ;>)

I'm pretty sore today, but otherwise OK. Watch out for those sloping curbs.

    Jerry Nielsen - iMarketOnMac

    • Thanks - I already have a good fellow πŸ˜‰

iPad Case, that's another story! LOL Which of the iLuv cases do you have?? Really glad to hear you came out of that fall without too much damage. I had a recent fall that took me some time to recover...

  11. Just ordered mine - and ordered the official case. Lets see how good the thing is!

    • I wasn't impressed with it - for the same reasons mentioned in the video review at the top of the post. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it...

  12. Ryan T Malone says

I'm just still shattered that you shattered your iPad screen. (pardon the pun).

They are soon to be released in Australia, and I am having serious doubts about whether or not to buy one, mainly because I am as clumsy as it gets to be honest. haha But... at the end of the day, I am impulsive, so I will definitely keep a few of these cases in mind.

    Still shattered about yours though....

  13. As always, great info Lynn! As I haven't received my iPad yet, I wouldn't have known about how slick it was and wouldn't have even known I needed to order a case for it. Seems silly to me that it doesn't come with a case!

I've been trying to decide on a case and sure appreciate your reviews. The EcoView iPad case that Ed Dale recommended looks like the best one out there for me. Like the stand and hand strap features very much and anything that is both stylish and functional is great in my book.

    Thanks for keeping me informed.

  14. The iPad Security Case with combination lock is the best one out there. I believe newpcgadgets sells them online.

  15. Brian Jones says

I think the case I used now from DSstyles is better. Also I believe some cases in the market is also very good.

  16. iPad Case dude says

With so many products to choose from where do you start looking for the right one? As you said, they are very fragile and shatter very easily. I hope your journey to find the right case is successful. This iPad Security Case with the combination lock sounds interesting. I may have to check it out for myself.

  17. I was disappointed with the Apple Case from the moment I saw one that an Apple store worker was using - it looked like crap. Initially, I was going to get the Sena leather folio case (which to me is the nicest looking case with the necessary functionality) but I got the Apple case to hold me over until I could order the Sena. Once I started using the Apple Case I fell in love with it. It's perfect with regard to having a sleek profile, while more than adequately protecting my iPad (I use a clear screen protector as well). In fact, I got to like it so much that I never ordered the Sena case, which looks nice but would add considerable bulk when compared to the Apple case. I have a cat, and the case DOES NOT collect cat hair. What it does do is really show dust, oil, and scuff marks. My solution, however, is to clean it daily with a damp towel and wipe it clean with another towel - after which it looks like new again. Except for the upright stand (which is wobbly) I don't think you'll find a better case when it comes to looks, profile, or functionality.

  18. The Today Show showed what they called a Tumi ipad case (appeared to come in multiple colors and be similar to an iphone case). I can't find it on any website tho. Would love to find it since I just purchased one for my hubby.

  19. I meet a guy last week who manufactures a folio case for apple, was interesting to hear from him that apple wanted him to produce the case for under $20 if the retail price was going to be $80 in their stores.
(400% markup not bad) poor guy makes 15% lol
